The Bug Butcher | Review – The Friday Geek

The Bug Butcher is an intense 2D side scrolling, action shooter and bug squashing game. Developed by an indie game studio, Awfully Nice Studios. Composed of only two, not awfully, but nice guys that always uses fun and humor in their content.

You play Harry, a space bug exterminator, whose assignment is to exterminate all space bugs until decontamination of the building is complete. In the process, he must, well, survive of course, gather as much as coins he get for weapon and abilities upgrade and protect the scientist from getting eaten alive.

The mechanics of the game is simple, exterminate all the bugs, loot coins and survive.

You can choose from the 2 game modes: Panic Single Player or Co-Op and Arcade Missions.

This game is highly addictive and frustrating at times as  your inner self wants to achieve always the top score making you want to hit that ‘retry’ button just to achieve a perfect score. It also give players a nice challenge, not only in racking up those coins, but also the style or technique you want to impose on how to exterminate all the bugs on each level. One problem I can see for some players. Harry only shoots upwards. Unless you got a spray gun. So Metal Slug Players, be aware. There’s also a global ranking if you want to play competitively and beat all high scores on the list

Pretty straight forward. You can use the same keyboard for your split-player needs. One tip though, disable the Stickey Keys before you play the game so it wouldn’t interrupt your extermination process just because you press the SHIFT key for five times.

I was surpised it has good a Ultrawide support for such a small game. Graphics aren’t top notch but the details on the characters are amazing. No option to calibrate available in the settings should you wish to adjust some details. It can definitely run on the any hardware with at least Dual Core, 4GB of RAM and at least a 1GB of VRAM.

If you are looking for a stress-free (well, not that much) and away from the usual big titles such as PUBG, DOTA2, Overwatch, and so on, The Bug Butcher could veer you away from the stress that those games bring to you. It can still pose a challenge if you are competitive to always notch those top scores. But the fun factor is still definitely there. You may find it repetitive at times but there’s always something in the game that you feel you want to continue and always aim for that top score. There are also global rankings that you can try to beat. The Bug Butcher is available in Steam Store for just P 259.95. Just wait for Steam Sale and you can the game for the less than a hundred Philippine Peso. The game accumulates ‘Very Positive’ feedback because it’s such a fun game to begin with.

We give the game a 3.5/5 score!
