Nidhogg 2 (Game Review)| The Friday Geek

It’s a hack-and-slash, tug-of-war, stab, shoot, slice, or stomp your opponent to move forward on to the next screen. Sounds easy? Wait till your opponent does the same to you. Get ready for some bizarre visuals, eerie look of characters, bloody and squishy combat, and of course, the return of the Wurm!

The same fast-paced hilarious stabby action you’re use to from the first Nidhogg, with more weapons, more music, more levels… and MORE FUN!

Nidhogg 2 is a very straight forward game. Literally and figuratively. You need to kill anyone who stands in your way so you can advance and move on to the next stage. But once your throat has been slit or you pop your eyeballs from the swords of your enemy, you will slowly creep backwards until you reached the very end where Wurm is ready and waiting to devour the victor so he (or she?) can declare it as a Winner. By eating them. It’s gory, amusing, repetitive, and fun game so to speak.

Lack of graphic appeals has been overshadowed by the fun factor of this game. Some may find the game’s visual a little bit boring and meh especially for those who are not fond of cartoonish type of characters. As the game progress, the sceneries or the backgrounds are actually quiet good and appealing that it makes you want to continue the game and move forward.

The game’s official soundtrack is composed of genre’s from Dance, EDM, Indie Rock, just to name a few. At first, i find it weird on the songs that has been playing while I’m getting ripped or slaying enemies. But, once you get the groove, you’ll find yourself nodding on some of the songs while getting the momentum to move forward. I highly recommend that you use a gamepad or controller for this game. Using keyboard is sometimes confusing especially if you need to react faster than your enemy. But, you can always customize the mapping according to your preference.

Nidhogg 2 doesn’t need a beefy rig to run. A decent dual-core set up will do just fine.

If you’re looking for a game that will slightly unleash your inner rage, Nidhogg 2 might even provide you more what you could’ve asked for. It’s repetitive but fun, amusing and totally entertaining Every move and strike is critical so don’t underestimate the AIs. I find them pretty good actually. They gave me a hell of match before I actually beat the game. Took me 45 minutes to finish all levels. I might do another run just to see if I can beat my personal record.

I just wished that the online multiplayer for this game is still active. But, you can always play with your friends via Local or LAN connection. This game might not be for everyone’s taste, but if you want to try Nidhogg, this might be the best place to start. Once you get feel of the game, look forward as well in playing the first one. Nidhogg 1 is available at steam for P 319.95.
